Spring is in the air, and that means a lot of people are revving up their inner interior decorator for a spot of re-arranging, re-purposing and re-doing. Fireplaces usually play a big role in this, so we know a thing or two about the subject. But we also know that style is a fickle and every changing world.
It seems every other week, there is a new “hot trend” or “must-have item”. It can be exhausting keeping up. While some things will remain relevant throughout the year, and other things are simply timeless, others will be in and out of fashion so quickly they may pass you buy entirely.
So, with the idea to paint a broad, semi-constant picture of the 2015 style options available to you, we have assembled this post chronicling the style choices that seem set to stick around for longer than 24 hours. If you are thinking of redecorating, no matter to what extent, these are things you could, and should, keep in mind.
Decals

Across the board, designers are agreeing that decals, little pictures on items, are in this year. While most tend to be motifs of nature, you can find some of other items too, such a boats, bridges, or other man-made or natural occurrences. And they aren’t just in silhouette either – most decals are detailed representations of what they are portraying.
Plus, they can feature on anything. Wallpaper is the obvious start, but cushions, curtains, and lamps are all available with nice little pictures of them. It is part one of 2015’s apparent push to bring the outside indoors.
Plants

Plants are part two of that push. In lieu of traditional art decoration, trends are aiming towards the less traditional forms of decoration via art. Plants are being used instead of paintings, giving rooms a more open and alive feel. You may be used to having on bunch of flowers in a vase on the window sill, but it may be high time to expand.
The plants we’ve seen suggested are all shapes and sizes too. From little bunches of delicate flowers, to big leafy pot plants, the whole range is covered. Plus, speaking from a fireplace point of view, with the appliance seeing less usage as we approach the summer, utilising the room in front and around your fireplace as an area to display flowers is a great way to keep the fireplace area as a focal point.
Pastel Colours

Although this isn’t the only colour pallet vying for attention this spring season, it is the most common. Muted pastel colours have been seen in “hot” living rooms, bathrooms and bedrooms, so if you’re looking for a unified style throughout your home, it is the safest bet. Blue is the most prominent colour amongst this range, but pinks, purples, greens, and even greys, are showing up alongside it.
It may also be worth incorporating these colours into the other prominent design trend in this area – lines. Angular wallpapers, art pieces, and even furniture look set to be all the rage, so combine the two for the best effect.
Metals

This final point may seem contradictory considering the “natural” look that is being pushed, but metals have been added almost as a counter-point. Metals are being used for accessories, and small appliances. Think light fixtures, tables, and some art pieces. And brass-like metals (like copper) seem to be being favoured over the likes of iron and steel, especially for anything that is just as much for aesthetic purposes as it is for practical ones (think desk lamps).
And why not complement your new metal accessories with one of our metallic stoves? It’s actually a great time of the year to be buying a fireplace or stove, as you have time to decorate it before the weather turns chilly again, where the stove may be in constant use, making it harder to work around.
Follow these tips, and you’ll hopefully have a house that will turn heads for all the right reasons this spring. It may be worth getting an expert in, but make sure they are reputable – cowboy decorators are just as common as cowboy builders! Utilising trade comparison websites is the best way forward, such as Top Tradespeople.
